1. What is IGNITE?

They have staff and advocates to support survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual abuse. Services are free and available to people who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, and/or from Deaf and signing families (i.e. CODAs) and are residents of Monroe County.

2. Does IGNITE provide services to both males and females?

IGNITE’s doors are open to victims/survivors from all walks of life. They welcome contact from anyone regardless of gender, communication style, race, ethnicity, culture, age, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and family, education or employment background.

3. What’s the purpose for this walk?

In addition to raising funds for IGNITE, we want this walk to symbolize a community coming together and showing support for survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault as well as showing the commitment to help stop the violence.

4. Why are you hosting this walk now?

IGNITE, like most non-profit organizations, is impacted by the current economic climate. Less money means that IGNITE can support less people, so the sisters of Alpha Sigma Alpha are hosting this event in the hopes that it will make up for the budget cuts and help IGNITE help more people.

5. Who can participate?

We would like everyone to participate! Just like IGNITE, we welcome all walks of life. In fact, with more diversity at this walk, we can send a more powerful message as a community united under one cause.

6.Why should I participate?

By participating in this walk you will help fund the services IGNITE provides for people who have been victims of domestic violence or abuse in the deaf community.

7. Who has to register?

All participants in the walk have to register. Spectators are welcome and do not have to register.

8. If I registered online, do I have to show up early for registration?

Yes! We will be handing out t-shirts, wristbands, and you will need to sign waivers.

9. What should I bring?

You can bring whatever you like, as long as it does not violate RIT policy and/or the New York State law. Some ideas are: heels to walk in, a camera, some extra cash for the raffle and your friends!

10. Do I have to wear heels to participate in the walk?

No, you do not have to wear heels. Feel free to wear whatever shoes you would like!

11. What clothes should I wear?

Be mindful of the weather, we will be walking rain or shine, so dress appropriately! Feel free to coordinate any outfits you would like.

12. What is not allowed?

Anything that can harm others. Such items include alcohol, firearms and explosives. An extensive list of what is and what is not allowed under RIT’s policy may be found here: http://www.rit.edu/studentaffairs/studentconduct/rr.php?
